SASMO Conference Programme

Call for Abstracts

Following the resounding success of the combined conference in November 2018, the SASMO and SASCeTS societies have decided to again join forces for our 2022 conference. The conference will take place on 6 – 8 May 2022, Sandton Convention Centre, Sandton, Johannesburg.

The Conference Committee invites you to contribute to the SASMO-2022 programme by submitting your abstract for the conference.

The theme of the conference is “Precision, Personalised Medicine”

Abstracts may be submitted online for Oral or Poster presentations and should be limited to 500 words.

Oral presentations will be 20 minutes including Q & A.

  • 15 Nov 2021 – Abstracts live
  • 01 Feb 2022 – Abstracts closes
  • 15 Mar 2022 – Abstract re-submission closes
  • 11 Apr 2022 – Abstract review process will be completed
  • 12 Apr 2022 – Authors will be notified of their abstract status

Abstract Content

Please ensure that your abstract summarises your entire contribution in one paragraph (maximum of 500 words).

Do not use section headings, but ensure that the content is structured.

Diagrams, illustrations, tables, references and graphics are NOT permitted for the abstract.

Qualities of a good abstract embodies the following structure:

  • Uses an introduction-body-conclusion structure in which the parts of the report are discussed in order: purpose, research questions, methods, findings, conclusions, recommendations.
  • Can be understood without reading the paper.
  • Provides a condensed and concentrated version of the full paper.
  • Does not contain citations.
  • Does not contain lengthy background information.
  • Should contain actual research results and should not be a study/research protocol only.
  • Focus on the relevance, novelty and contribution to the field that the research is reporting.

These sections should briefly describe the objectives of the study or investigation, the basic procedures (study subjects and analytical methods), the main findings
